For two decades I have refrained from using the word "fight" to describe the efforts of my self and others to bring reason to the conflict between industrial salmon feedlots and the living coast of British Columbia.
Today, I have changed my mind. This is a fight - as in fighting for life.
Through the passage of time and Justice Cohen, we are all a lot better informed today than when this started in the waters of my home near Kingcome Inlet in 1988. I believe many, in government and in the industry, know what we are dealing with here, but no one is quite sure how to come clean.
I am racing an epidemic and government gave the viruses the head start. If anyone wants to say I am wrong I have this to say: Prove it. Step up now and lay your reputation on the line and tell us ISA virus is not in British Columbia. Many did this already under oath at Cohen.
To the Minister of Fisheries, the Premier of BC and the CFIA I can only say you need to figure out an exit strategy. You are ignoring thousands of people. You can't hide this, it is too big. Influenza-type viruses in feedlots are dangerous.
To the rest of you, please view this presentation and consider helping us pay the costs associated with getting the message out. The BC salmon farmers have spent millions to combat our effort and they are still losing. Industrial salmon feedlots can never work in the ocean. They are a dirty, failing dinosaur of an industry that is taking the coastlines of Canada down with them.
This issue now spans the nation with both eastern and western Canada coming together to stand up to this industry.
